Professor of Public Health Science, Head of Department of Public Health Sciences, Stockholm University (Sweden)

Mikael Rostila is Professor of Public Health Science with a special focus on Social Epidemiology. He is currently the Head of Department of Public Health Sciences at Stockholm University. Mikael received his PhD in Sociology in 2008 and is currently also associate professor of Sociology at Stockholm University. He was the Director of Centre for Health Equity Studies (CHESS), a collaboration between Stockholm University and Karolinska Institutet, between 2016 and 2018. His research broadly deals with health inequalities and the social determinants of health with a particular emphasis on migration and health. He has published over 100 papers on topics related to health inequalities and behavioural/social determinants of health. Recently he has been working on research on disparities in COVID-19 by country of origin and the contribution of social and behavioural factors for increased COVID-19 mortality and morbidity in foreign-born.
