Deputy Executive Health Officer — Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM);

Currently NCD Officer and involved in COVID-19 response (India)

Dr. Daksha Shah is a Public health expert working in MCGM for 25 years and currently engaged in the Covid-19 response in Mumbai. She has been involved in field monitoring and implementation of preventive strategies, support in reporting systems, Media briefings, as well as home isolation programme for Covid 19. In addition, overseeing Sero surveillance project as COPI. She is also working on PPP policy of the MCGM to provide medical facilities in areas of Dialysis and mother-child care and strengthening the NCD program in Mumbai.

As a local-leader and domain expert, she has worked on many National programs. She has successfully implemented technology-based innovations for Tuberculosis Care and enabled many partnerships for TB Care in the city. She had also participated in WHO Joint Monitoring Mission for TB-India in 2019 and contributed as expert for developing National PPP guidelines under the National TB Control Program and also developed a comprehensive roadmap for a TB-Free Mumbai Plan. She has effectively built CSR strategy and mobilized resources across initiatives.

Dr. Daksha obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Topiwala National Medical College, Mumbai and Diploma in Public Health from College of Physician and Surgeons, Mumbai, India. She also holds an International Masters in Health Leadership from McGill University, Canada and Humphrey Fellowship, Full bright Scholar Public Health Policy and NCD from Tulane University, USA. She has also completed short Field Epidemiology course from the World Health Organization and IMA Fellowship in Family Medicine.

She has worked briefly at Pan-American Health Organization, WHO’s Regional Office, USA. She has also presented in many national and international forums such as Harvard Public Health School and McGill TB Centre, Union World Conferences etc. She has also received OPPI National award for Health Innovation and Leadership in 2018. She has contributed to many scientific publications and research support.
