Senior Professor & Head, Dept of Respiratory Medicine & Critical Care at PGIMS, Rohtak (India)

Dr. Dhruva Chaudhry is presently Professor & Chair, department of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Pt BDS Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), University of Health Sciences Rohtak, Haryana, India. He is alumnus of PGIMER Chandigarh & PGIMS, Rohtak. He was awarded prestigious Commonwealth Academic staff fellowship in Pulmonology in 2009. He is also recipient of Hansraj Nayyar Memorial Award of Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM) for best researcher & is a fellow of Indian College of Critical Care Medicine & Indian College of Physicians. In March 2021, He has been elected as a Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences(FAMS). Prof. Chaudhry established the Department of PCCM in his institute as an offshoot from department of Medicine. Department was approved & recognized by MCI for providing post-doctoral training (DM) in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine since 2011. Besides, department is also imparting one-year training in critical care for last 10 years.  He has held various academic & Administrative positions in the institute & University. He has been Dean Faculty of Medical super-specialties (twice), in-charge Telemedicine & IT, Chairperson department of Accident & Emergency as well as Dean Student Welfare. He has served in various capacities with regulatory authorities in medical education & has extensive experience as an examiner & evaluator.

He has written more than 70 Papers in national/International journal & 55 chapters in books & edited a monograph. Prof. Chaudhry is on the editorial board & a regular reviewer in peer review journals in Chest, Critical care & allied specialties. He is the founder president of Association of Commonwealth Scholars & Fellows (ACSF) since its inception in 2016, supported by British council. He is the immediate Past President of Indian society of Critical Care Medicine (ISCCM), a nonprofit professional body of critical care physicians of India. He has played a pivotal role in education & training in critical care medicine in the country. He is the lead author of position statement of ISCCM on COVID19, & coauthor on transformational guidelines on “Tropical fever in ICU” of ISCCM. ISCCM collaborated with IMA & Medvarsity (Apollo group), Hyderabad under his leadership in training medical professionals in ventilation & management across India during COVID pandemic. He is one of the key advisors of the government of Haryana in managing COVID. Prof. Chaudhry was recently appointed as a member of Lancet commission’s task force on COVID19 for India.

Dr. Chaudhry is a public speaker of repute on health awareness including public health, motivation & ethics in medical practice. His belief in younger generation, ability to motivate & capacity to innovate in education to make it more enjoyable & skill oriented, resulted in major changes in training of undergraduate in his institution and state. Prof. Chaudhry was appointed as member of task force of Haryana Governance Reform Authority (HGRA) on “Health & Gender justice” in 2018 & Health in 2020. He also is a task force member of ICMR on making national guidelines in respiratory diseases and was a member of WHO & MHFOW guidelines formulations on COPD in India. He is also the member of expert group on validation of ventilators & respiratory support systems under chairpersonship of Principal Scientific advisor of GOI. Presently he is chair of ethical committee of Central University of Haryana & of other universities as well.

He is actively engaged in the process of making & establishing patient help groups to provide succor & emotional support with an intention to have a say of people in public health policy as well as issues related to patient safety.
